Year End Message from Sandy

December 21, 2009

SandyDear Friends of WOW,

Molly couldn’t take it anymore.

Friends and acquaintances were dumbfounded when she removed the children from school one day and left Joe.  They seemed normal — working hard to make ends meet, juggling the demands of a family…  Molly and Joe were just like everyone else.

Of course, they never saw the bruises on Molly’s arms and abdomen, because Molly became an expert at applying the right amount of make-up to cover up the bruising. The occasional cut lip was a “bad cold sore.”

When their son tried to stop his dad, taking a blow from the mop-handle swung at his mom — and went crashing against the refrigerator, magnets falling upon his head, something snapped in Molly.  She resolved to never see one of her children abused again. The next day, sobbing, Molly grabbed the kids and fled.

Were it not for organizations like Women of Worth, she’d have nowhere to go.

Sadly, this type of scenario happens throughout the community every single day. In 80% of homes where children are present, the abuse happens in front of their innocent eyes, leaving life-long scars.

Women of worth comes alongside battered women and children to offer them practical hope for living a safe and sane productive life, free from the terror of an abusive spouse.

Nearly 97% of all physical and emotional abuse happens to women and children.

Women of Worth receives no government money but operates solely on the gifts and contributions from people like you. While we know that finances are even tighter right now, these women and their children often flee for safety with few or no resources.

The harshness of domestic abuse intensifies during the holidays.  These families need your help!

Please contribute to Women of Worth today. Contributions can be made by check or credit card.

We sincerely appreciate your generosity and promise that your contribution will help these families in need.

Rebuilding lives together,
Sandy Schmidt
