HOHOHO

HO HO HOWomen of Worth started HOHOHO (Helping Out Helping Others Holiday Outreach) in 2002 after seeing that the families we assisted were making progress but still didn’t have money for any kind of Christmas for their children.

Through HOHOHO, WOW finds “Secret Angels” in the community to adopt families and provide at least two nice new gifts for each family member. The families are WOW clients and families referred by several local agencies.

Volunteers are the key to the success of the HOHOHO program. The Secret Angels not only spend their own money to buy gifts but also go to great lengths wrapping them, adding special little touches, then making sure they are all delivered on time. In 2008, our Secret Angels made Christmas special for 150 families!

Following are examples of how HOHOHO has impacted the lives of families.

HO HO HO

Michelle escaped a violent relationship, leaving with nothing but her life and her three children. Michelle said, “I did not know what we were going to do for Christmas. WOW not only found wonderful angels to provide Christmas gifts for us, but they helped me get a Christmas tree and all of the decorations. It was so wonderful, and such a relief. Every year that we decorate our tree now, I think of the kindness of the angels at WOW.”

Nicole was a victim of domestic violence struggling to rebuild her life with her son. She went to CalWorks for assistance and enrolled in school, but still needed extra help. Nicole said, “When Christmas time rolled around, I had no money for anything. My CalWorks worker introduced me to Women of Worth and told me that someone would donate gifts for me and my son. When it came time to pick up the gifts, I was amazed at everything WOW had done for us.”

The Victim Witness program relocated Colette and her children to Grass Valley after she left her abusive husband. Colette said, “The first Christmas here, it was snowing. Women of Worth delivered a Christmas tree, ornaments and Christmas lights. I cried with joy and thanked God that I was able to see the light and reach out for help.”
