Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a problem devastating every sector of society, overwhelming our courts and hospitals and spilling over into our streets.

The good news is each of us can be a part of the solution in addressing the toll this epidemic is taking.

Domestic violence is a rapidly growing concern affecting all classes, cultures, ages and economic groups in our community. WOW together with other organizations is working to stop the violence and provide protective mechanisms for individuals who are battered. Several factors are associated with domestic violence.

Typically they are:

  • History of aggressive behavior
  • History of abuse as a child or witnessing parental abuse
  • Alcoholism or other drug abuse
  • Controlling relationships
  • Poorly defined masculinity and identity
  • Exposure to violent video games and movies

All women, children and men have the right to live their lives in a healthy and safe environment, without emotional, physical or sexual abuse, or the fear of abuse. Volunteer and help eliminate domestic violence and reduce their effects in your community.
