From Sandy’s Desk
Dear Friends of Women of Worth & Hetty’s Haven,
Through encouragement and financial support, we opened Hetty’s in 2010. Since the doors opened, Hetty’s Haven has been serving at capacity, offering safety and healing to women and children in need. It’s the only transitional safe home of its kind in Nevada County, serving Nevada and Placer Counties, and surrounding areas.
Violence against women and children is proliferating. The difficult economy, high unemployment, and rising substance abuse – all are key contributors to domestic violence. We are thankful that we can continue to provide a safe environment at Hetty’s Haven to victims of abuse, human trafficking and sexual assault. It’s a place where they can begin their restoration with the highest standard of care.
In addition to Hetty’s Haven, Women of Worth is in its10th year providing practical assistance and support services to hundreds, including counseling, advocacy, support groups, life skills training, mentoring, assistance with re-entry into the workforce and/or schooling, transitional housing, furnishings and transportation assistance.
This past year has been both challenging and fulfilling for Women of Worth. I want to thank you for your support. Women of Worth is supported by the generosity of our great community…by you.
Each day we are grateful to open our doors offering a safe and secure home for women and children to stay.
Here is a testimonial from one mother:
“I was terrified when I fled from my home with my 3 children. The thought of living at “a shelter” almost caused me to change my mind and go back, but Women of Worth assured me it was a safe, beautiful home. When I arrived at Hetty’s Haven with my 3 children and they invited me in, I felt like I was standing at the front door forever. Never could I imagine that “a shelter” like this existed. I’ve never seen such a beautiful home. Thank you Women of Worth for showing me and my children that we have worth. I look forward to the day I can give back what you have given me.” (Katy)
Many of these women leave virtually all their material possessions behind to get the help they need. They fight for their most precious possessions — their children, who are often used by their abuser as pawns for control. It takes great courage to make the choice to leave because statistics show the most dangerous time for a battered woman is the leaving.
Please continue to help us– to provide these precious families with a safe, supportive environment, which may save lives, by supporting Women of Worth with volunteer time, material donations and financial assistance. Please give a tax-deductible gift by check or credit card at www.ihaveworth.org or send your financial gift to: P.O. Box 213, Cedar Ridge, CA 95924. Donations are also welcome at our office.
Your support truly does make a difference to those we serve. Thank you!
Rebuilding lives together,
Sandy Schmidt, Founder-Executive Director
